Annabelle Berry

Annabelle E. Berry was born June 15, 1917 in Oak Harbor to Rein and Viola Zylstra. She died Jan. 26, 2005.

Annabelle was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend as well as a lover of Big Band music, square dancing, playing card games and her Mariners. She was Oak Harbor’s Miss Holland Days Queen, 1937, a professional cook with the Seattle Public Schools District and legendary wedding cake decorator. Annabelle was also an accomplished seamstress, quilter and overall enthusiast of life.

June 15, 1941, she married Burlington “Bud” A. Berry at St. Mary’s Methodist Church in Coupeville, and their love affair lasted well beyond Bud’s death in 1987.

She is survived by her brother Wesley Zylstra and his wife Dottie of Oak Harbor, son Warren Berry and his wife Sandi of Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter Bonnie Wescott and her husband Rob of Kennewick, and two grandchildren, Barry and Sarita Wescott.

A memorial service was held Feb. 1 in her honor at the Chapel of Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, Lynnwood. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a local hospice.
