Anna Libbey

Anna M. Libbey, 91, a resident of Coupeville for 70 years, died March 31, 2002, at Victorian Cottage in Coupeville. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, at Sunnyside Cemetery with the Rev. Mary Petrina Boyd of the Coupeville United Methodist Church, officiating.

Mrs. Libbey was born Dec. 21, 1910, in Cairo, Hall County, Neb., to Ane Marie and Jacob P. Jensen. At an early age the family moved first to Idaho and then to South Whidbey where she graduated from Langley High School in 1929.

Anna retired in 1976 from the Coupeville School District where she worked as a cook for 17 years. After retiring, she did volunteer work at Whidbey General Hospital and occasionally cooked for the Coupeville Lions Club. She also worked several summers as a cook at Camp Casey.

Anna and Calvin Libbey were married on Nov. 14, 1932. After 62 years of marriage Calvin passed away on Feb. 13, 1995. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter.

She is survived by one daughter, Leanne Sahli, and husband Tom of Burien; three sons, Howard Libbey and wife Darlene of Burlington, George Libbey and wife Claudia of Oak Harbor, and Dale Libbey and wife Jan of Coupeville; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Howard Jensen and wife Doris of Reno, Nev.; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to the Coupeville United Methodist Church or your favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
