Anita Johnson: June 1, 1949 – June 28, 2021

On June 28, Anita Lee Johnson peacefully entered the gates of Heaven while in the loving arms of her husband. She fought a long battle with cancer.

Anita was born to parents Conrad and Mary Wagner in San Diego, Calif., on June 1, 1949. Later, the family moved to Encinitas, Calif., where she graduated from San Dieguito High School, class of 1967. After graduation, Anita attended Palomar Community College in San Marco, Calif., and later moved to Washington state, where she continued her education, graduating from Skagit Valley Community College. She later entered into a successful real estate career and, with her husband, became the designated broker and co- owner of Island Brokers Realty in Oak Harbor, Wash.

Anita was very involved in the community. She was a longtime member of Soroptimist International; board member/secretary of the Oak Harbor Senior Center; member of the North Puget Sound Association of Realtors; respected leader of the real estate community; leader of many Island County 4-H Clubs. An avid beekeeper herself, she started the first Bee Club in Island County with her granddaughters.

Anita, with her husband, Ed, loved camping, sailing and working side by side at their real estate office. She enjoyed gardening, raising sheep, chickens and a menagerie of other animals on their Victorian Rose Country Farm. She enjoyed the sunshine and all things “outdoors,” She loved quilting, spinning wool to make yarn and canning fruits and vegetables from the farm.

Anita is survived by her husband Ed Johnson; daughter Erika Syring and family, Aaron and granddaughters Payton and Reagan; son Chris Anderson and family Lisa and grandchildren Thomas and Caitlyn.

For those who had the pleasure of knowing Anita, they will remember that they were always greeted with her sparkling blue eyes and warm smile. Even though we will miss her physical presence, her sweet smile and loving spirit will forever remain in our hearts. “Heaven has gained another Angel.”
