Alice Shirley Ford

Alice Shirley Ford, 84, of Oak Harbor, died Oct. 7, 2004, at Whidbey General Hospital.

Mrs. Ford was born March 23, 1920, in Port Angeles, to Francis Cowan and Frances (Buckner) Cowan. She was married to Robert L. Ford, who preceded her in death in 1990. Alice was a resident of Marysville before moving to Oak Harbor. She had been a registered nurse in the US Army, where she had risen to the rank of lieutenant. Alice was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

In addition to her husband, Alice was also preceded in death by her only child, James S. Wirfs; a step-son, Robert L. Ford II; brothers Kenneth and Stephen Cowan and sisters Anna Svedlund, Margaret Amon, Barbara Wickens and Kathleen Bauer. She is survived by a step-daughter, Joan Caylor of Chimacum; two daughters-in-law, Marie Wirfs of Oak Harbor and Ruth Ford of Cambridge, Minn.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also, numerous nieces and nephews.

In keeping with her wishes, no services will be held. Private inurnment will take place at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Ore., next to her husband, Robert L. Ford. Arrangements and cremation under direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
