Agnes Carlisle, 90, died May 14, 2005, at Careage of Whidbey after a short illness. She was born Jan. 12, 1915, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Agnes was one of seven children born to Wencil and Josephine Mach, formerly of Czechoslovakia. She graduated from St. Wenceslaus School in Cedar Rapids.
In 1936 Agnes married Christian Besser in Rock Island, Ill., but they began their life together in Cedar Rapids and lived thee until 1946. They then relocated to Southern California with their daughter, Jeanne, born in 1937. Christian died there in 1970 after 34 years of marriage.
In September of 2004 Agnes and Jeanne moved to Oak Harbor to be near her grandson, Jim, and his new bride Pamela who both work for Northwest Cabinets. Jim and Pamela are expecting their first child in September, which will be Agnes’ fourth great-grandchild.
Agnes is survived by her daughter Jeanne of Oak Harbor and three grandchildren, Mike and Guadalupe Longworth of Southern California, Lori and Larry Walker of Anacortes and Jim and Pam Longworth of Anacortes. She also leaves two great-granddaughters, Sarah Walker of Northern California, and Rachel Walker of San Francisco.
Agnes was the last of her generation, she was preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters and one great-grandson, Joshua Walker.
Agnes will be remembered by many friends as a loving wife and wonderful homemaker. She is now in heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus the Messiah. Arrangements were entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel.
