Adah Gamble

Funeral Mass for Adah Caroline Gamble will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Coupeville, with Rev. John J. O’Leary, S.J., Celebrant. Rites of Committal will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Parish Hall at St. Mary’s Church.

Adah Gamble, 82, died April 3, 2002, at Providence Mother Joseph Care Center, Olympia. She was born Sept. 10, 1919, at Fort Casey, Coupeville to Edward Adam Frank Kottke and Katherine Rose Lange Kottke. At the age of three, Adah traveled to the Philippines with her grandfather. She returned three years later. She attended Coupeville schools, completing the eleventh grade.

Adah was married to Eugene Edward Gamble on Dec. 31, 1936. They spent most of their married lives in the Seattle area, including 30 years in Woodinville. Mr. Gamble died in 1988 and Mrs. Gamble recently moved to Olympia to be near her daughter. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Lacey and a long time member of the Children’s Orthopedic Hospital Guild of Woodinville. Adah loved to quilt, crochet, sew and do craft work. Over the years, she created many beautiful handmade items for Children’s Hospital.

Mrs. Gamble is survived by 10 children: LeRoy Gamble (Patricia) of Woodinville; Darrell Gamble of Woodinville; Fleeda Newcombe (Gary) of Seattle; Adah Harn (Thomas) of Olympia; John Richard Gamble (Juanita) of El Sobrante, Calif.; William Norman Gamble (Janet) of Manteca, Calif.; Mary K Hunt of Bellevue; Steven L. Gamble (Nancy) of Fall City; Marsha Holbrook (Bob) of Woodinville; and Gary Gamble (Cindy) of Bow. She is also survived by two sisters, Charlotte Hulin of Spokane. and Eva Ramsey of Thompson Falls, Mont., and one brother Edward Richard Kottke of Aitkin, Mass. and by 27 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
