Yes, we can stop speeders

All I have ever been known to do is serve my community. Whether I’m playing firefighter/emergency medical technician, 4-H leader, or serving in the U.S. Navy, there has been one phrase that has always stuck in my mind: “It can’t be done.” Yes, it can, and in response to Mr. Johnston (News-Times, Feb. 27, “Before speed kills”) stating that “we are trying to get people to go the speed limit,” it hasn’t worked, try telling that to a 16-year-old that is excited about getting their license.

For many years in this neighborhood on Ensign, at some point, each neighbor has had a car come crashing into the yards and trees and that is why we have come together to try to get this matter solved. We have taken all three steps and are so tired of speeders crashing into our yards, fence, and personal vehicles! We are pleading for speed humps at the 90 degree turns to slow them down. I had a car crash into my yard in December. What if it was summer and one of my boys were hit? Is it going to take a death of a human being to get some speed humps?

Please don’t say it can’t be done. I invite our city’s mayor to sit with me in the yard after the high schoolers are let out so he can see the problem first hand. We thank our traffic officers for patrolling the area.
