The Whidbey Wildcat Wrestling Club snagged five second-place finishes at the Steelclaw Folkstyle Tournament at Sedro-Woolley High School Sunday, Dec. 7.

Brody Force (Pew Wee 41-42), Cayden Boyk (Pee Wee 42-43), Jacob Barajas (Pee Wee 56-58), Travis Burns (Novice 105) and Jacob Naylor (Schoolboy 152) all placed second.

Jenzia Chadduck (Novice 140+) finished fourth for the only other top four finish for WWWC, which sent 17 to the tournament.

“Our team turnout for this last open tournament was great, although it was a hard one,” coach Tom Clairmont said. “We had many of our first-time wrestlers participating in their very first tournament. They did awesome. I am extremely proud of them, and all of our wrestlers, for that matter.”

Many of the WWWC members are competing in open tournaments within their first two years, Clairmont added, and facing athletes with much more experience.

“All of our kids are using the skill sets they have been working hard to learn,” Clairmont said. “I’m excited to see them develop their skills this season and throughout  the seasons to come.”
