Woman’s nightclub dispute ends in assault

An argument that started inside an Oak Harbor nightclub ended with a serious assault in a park early Saturday morning.

An argument that started inside an Oak Harbor nightclub ended with a serious assault in a park early Saturday morning.

Lt. John Dyer with the Oak Harbor Police reported that two young women got into a scuffle at the Element Nightclub just before 2 a.m. Police responded, but found that the fight was settled before they arrived.

Dyer said the suspect, 22-year-old Melissa Brown of Oak Harbor, called the other woman at about 3:30 a.m., telling her to meet her at Windjammer Park.

When the woman arrived, Brown broke a liquor bottle over her head, the lieutenant alleged.

Dyer said the 22-year-old woman sustained serious injuries, including a gash on her face, a broken nose and bruised eye. She was transported to the hospital, where a doctor closed the laceration with 35 stitches.

“She lost a lot of blood,” Dyer said.

Officers arrested Brown on suspicion of second-degree assault, which is a felony.

While things have been calm at the controversial club lately, Dyer said police were called to the Element for three assault complaints within an hour, beginning at 1 a.m. Saturday.

But all the altercations were settled before officers arrived and nobody wanted to pursue charges.
