A 60-year-old homeless woman who ran over her boyfriend six years ago when he tried to stop her from driving drunk was recently arrested for allegedly driving while high on methamphetamine, according to court documents.

Prosecutors charged Kathy A. Holmwood in Island County Superior Court Feb. 12 with a single count of felony driving under the influence.

She could face more than a year in prison if convicted of the charge.

A DUI becomes a felony charge when the suspect had previously been convicted of vehicular homicide, vehicular assault or has four prior DUI convictions.

Holmwood’s criminal history includes a conviction for vehicular assault and a previous DUI.

In 2010, Holmwood critically injured her boyfriend in Oak Harbor.

He walked in front of her car to stop her from driving. She warned him to move or she would run him over. When he didn’t move, she ran him over and drove to the store to buy malt liquor, according to police reports.

The man suffered internal injuries and was sent in critical condition to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

In the recent case, a woman at the Acorn Motel in Oak Harbor reported to police that a couple who had been kicked out of the motel may be driving while intoxicated.

An officer followed the pickup and witnessed it traveling erratically on the highway, according to the officer’s report. He pulled the truck over and found that Holmwood was driving with a male passenger.

The officer arrested the man for trying to conceal a meth pipe, the report states. The officer arrested Holmwood after she allegedly failed roadside sobriety tests.

A breathalyzer test showed that Holmwood had very little alcohol in her system.

A blood test, however, was positive for meth, according to court documents.
