The Coupeville High School soccer and volleyball teams broke away from the routine of practice and received a taste of game action when they competed in jamborees hosted by Oak Harbor last week.

In soccer, Oak Harbor welcomed Coupeville and South Whidbey in an all-island jamboree at Wildcat Memorial Stadium Thursday, Sept. 3.

Coupeville fell 1-0 to Oak Harbor and tied South Whidbey 1-1 in a pair of 20-minute matches.

Sage Renninger “buried a bullet,” coach Troy Cowan said, for the Wolves’ goal against the Falcons.

“We learned some valuable lessons and will go back home and keep working hard,” Cowan said. “We are still young and we got our young players some valuable playing time against some above average players. Both our opponents were tough and played hard and that brought the best out of the Lady Wolves.”

Coupeville heads to Mount Vernon Christian at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8. The Wolves’ open at home at noon Saturday, Sept. 12, with Forks.

Coupeville dropped all its one-set matches at the volleyball jamboree Saturday, Sept. 5.

“The jamboree is a time for us to try out different lineups and combinations of players on the court,” coach Breanne Smedley said. “I thought the girls did a good job of working through that to find their flow. We have some areas of improvement, particularly in reducing our unforced errors, but we are on the right track and we are excited to work on these things as we enter into regular season.”

Coupeville plays at home at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, against South Whidbey.
