King’s remained undefeated in conference play by tripping the host Coupeville High School girls basketball team 67-33 Friday, Jan. 17.

The Knights, ranked sixth in the state 1A poll, used a full-court defense to pressure the Wolves into 35 turnovers.

Coupeville coach David King said, “I think we handled the press well, we just seemed to play at their pace and threw the ball away.”

King’s took advantage of the Coupeville mistakes to race to a 19-10 first-quarter lead, and then went into halftime ahead 33-17.

The Knights (7-0, 10-3) continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring the Wolves 17-8 in both the third and fourth quarters.

Though King’s dominated the game, coach King said his team received solid, all-around play from Amanda Fabrizi, Bree Messner, Julia Myers and Makana Stone.

“MaKayla (Bailey) came in the third and fourth quarters and gave us some really good minutes,” King said.
Stone finished with a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Fabrizi led the scorers with 11 points; Messner had seven, Kacie Kiel four and Myers one.

The Wolves (3-4, 6-6) begin the second round of Cascade Conference games with Cedarcrest at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, in Coupeville.

Cedarcrest (6-1, 12-2), the league’s second place team and the state’s fifth-ranked 2A team, defeated Coupeville 66-27 Dec. 10.
