After finishing the league season undefeated, the Coupeville High School tennis team continued its mastery over conference foes at the Olympic League 1A Tournament Saturday, Oct. 22, in Chimacum.

After finishing the league season undefeated, the Coupeville High School tennis team continued its mastery over conference foes at the Olympic League 1A Tournament Saturday, Oct. 22, in Chimacum.

The Wolves snared five of the eight berths allotted to the Olympic League for the district tournament.

Coupeville dominated the doubles competition, going 1-2-3. In fact, the only losses suffered by Coupeville doubles teams were to teammates.

The Wolves also finished third and fourth in singles play.

John McClarin and Joseph Wedekind captured the doubles title, beating teammates William Nelson and Joey Lippo 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 in the championship match.

Grey Rische and Jimmy Myers placed third, losing to McClarin and Wedekind in the semifinals.

Nick Etzell topped teammate Jakobi Baumann 4-6, 6-2, 12-10 in the singles match that determined third and fourth places.

The district tennis tournament is 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Sprinker Recreational Center in Tacoma.

Coupeville results at the league tournament:

McClarin/Wedekind: bye; won 6-4, 6-2; won 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.

Nelson/Lippo: bye; won 6-0, 6-2; lost 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.

Rische/Myers: won 8-2; lost 6-4, 6-2; won 7-6(8-6), 7-5.

Etzell: won 9-7; lost 6-0, 6-0; won 4-6, 6-2, 12-10.

Baumann: won 7-2, lost 6-0, 6-1; lost 4-6, 6-2, 12-10.

Mason Grove: won 8-0; lost 8-0.
