Archbishop Thomas Murphy found out that goose eggs don’t taste good at any point of the day.That’s what the Wildcats put up on the scoreboard during most of the third quarter of their game against Coupeville on Thursday. ATM did manage to score two points with six seconds left during the third but the 18-2 dismantling of the the Cats during the third gave the Wolves their second win of the week, 53-36.They are taking better control of the ball on offense, said Coupeville head coach Randy King. They are controlling the pace of the game and making teams play defense on them.The game started off as a battle, with the Wolves’ biggest lead of 10 coming during the opening moments of the game. The lead did not last as the Cats scratched and clawed their way through the first and were only down by two at the beginning of the second. I just thought that they did a really great job of running their offense, they were really patient, said King. But they didn’t like our zone very much.ATM stayed close during the second quarter and went into half only down by six. The third quarter has been good to the Coupeville boys as of late. The Wolves took it to the Loggers during the third period on Tuesday as they outscored Darrington, 14-4 and eventually went on to post a victory, 51-39. It happened this time, too.We are taking our time and executing, said Coupeville senior Noah Roehl. We are making them tired by playing more defense.The Wolves defense put up an invisible wall against ATM during the third as the Wildcats seemed to pass the ball around until it was stolen. When the Cats did take shots the sound of the basketball clanking off the rim and the sight of a Coupeville players coming down with it was extremely repetitive.As a team the Wolves pulled down 33 rebounds during their game against the Wildcats. Junior Chris Good was huge in the lane for the Wolves as he pulled down nine rebounds and led the team with 14 points.During both game the Wolves had seven players who scored.We just work it until someone gets open, said Roehl. We are learning how to play and it’s going to be hard to stop us. Pat Bennett has been scoring in double figures since coming back from an injury during winter break, including a 21 point effort against Darrington. He scored 13 for the Wolves versus ATM. Pat has been doing a great job on defense and tearing it up on offense, said King. The Wolves play Granite Falls tonight in the Coupeville gymnasium. Coupeville defeated Granite Falls earlier this season.
