William Day, 83, died at home on Nov. 16, 2008. He suffered from Parkinson’s disease.
William was born in Seattle to Ruth and Emmett Day. He served in the Merchant Marine at 16, and joined the Navy in 1942 at the age of 17. He retired after 23 years as a Chief Petty Officer in 1965. During his time in the Navy he was involved with World War II, Korea and Vietnam, seeing action in the Pacific Theater.
Following retirement from the Navy he was employed by Bridgestone-Firestone Co. in Los Angeles as a steam engineer from 1965 until 1980.
William has lived in Oak Harbor since 1983. He was avid boater, taking his trawler “Cimarron” up and down the coast to Mexico and Alaska many times. He had many friends in the boating community.
He is survived by his daughter, Risa DeLano of Folsom, Calif.; sister Audrey Donnell of Seal Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren; and his companion of seven years, Audrey Taylor of Oak Harbor.
His first wife Marsha, second wife Marilyn, and sister Jule preceded him in death.
At his request, there will be no formal services.
