Senior Ciera Wiser wasn’t about to finish her career with a loss.

The three-year starter led the Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team in four key statistical categories to help push the Wildcats to a 48-43 win at Maryville Getchell Wednesday, Jan. 30.

With the win, Oak Harbor ended the season with a 6-14 record, 3-10 in Wesco play.

Wiser topped Oak Harbor with 13 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals. And as Getchell (0-13, 2-18) cut the lead to three points in the final minute, Wiser drilled two free throws to finish off the Chargers.

Wiser wasn’t alone in guiding the ‘Cats. Oak Harbor received important contributions throughout the lineup, especially from junior Natalie Fiallos. The 4-10 guard collected six rebounds and two steals. She also scored 10 points, many coming at critical times. Finally, she induced an offensive foul in the closing seconds that thwarted the Chargers’ final comeback attempt.

Marysville Getchell jumped to a 5-2 lead, then Wiser — who else — scored six consecutive points and Oak Harbor never trailed again.

The Wildcats led 12-6 at the quarter and upped the gap to 15-6 before the Chargers rallied to within one, 17-16.

Then Oak Harbor spurted again as Fiallos scored five points and Kelsey Rankin four and the Wildcats led 28-22 at the break.

When Getchell got within one, 34-33, in the third quarter, Rankin scored the period’s final points and Oak Harbor was up 36-33 heading into the fourth period.

The lead was reached eight, 42-34, when Deja Bunch, subbing for an injured Jalani Bobo, hit two free throws midway through the period.

Rankin scored 10 points, Annie Leete eight, Liz Lym four, Bunch two and Bobo one.
