Wildcats end Wolves streak | Soccer

The Coupeville High School soccer team’s two-match winning streak came to a screeching halt in a 7-0 loss at Archbishop Murphy Monday, April 22.

The eighth-ranked Wildcats (10-2, 11-2-1) scored four minutes in the match and gained “instant momentum,” according to Coupeville coach Paul Mendes.

He added, “They are a very strong team and they were clicking on all cylinders.”

The Wolves had few scoring opportunities because Murphy “kept us busy trying to contain their strong offense,” Mendes said.

Coupeville’s best chances to score came when Nathan Lamb twice broke through the ATM’s defense, but the ball “just was not bouncing our way,” according to Mendes.

“Some of our guys will learn from it,” Mendes said, “and get ready for our next match. This is a good group and I am confident they will heal their wounds and bounce back.”

Coupeville (1-11, 2-12) honors its seniors in the final home match at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, against Granite Falls (2-9, 2-11).
