Wildcats earn 3 regional berths | Girls wrestling

Three Oak Harbor High School female wrestlers qualified for the regional tournament by placing in the top six at the subregional meet at Burlington-Edison High School Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6 and 7.

Three Oak Harbor High School female wrestlers qualified for the regional tournament by placing in the top six at the subregional meet at Burlington-Edison High School Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6 and 7.

The regional tournament begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Bellingham High School. The top four in each weight class qualify for the state tournament.

Amber Cramsey-Behnke (235 pounds) placed third for the best Wildcat finish.

Meredith Bain (170) was fifth and Isabel Garcia (105) sixth to pick up regional spots.

Caitlyn Woodworth (140) finished seventh and will be a regional alternate. Alyssa Ratchford (155) was eighth.

As a team, Oak Harbor scored 42 points to tie for 10th out of 36 schools. Mount Baker won with 224.5 points.

Cramsey-Behnke, who placed third in last year’s state tournament, opened the tournament with a bye and then a pin over Elizabeth Ramirez of Burlington-Edison.

Next, Isa Hernandez, the eventual champion, pinned Cramsey-Behnke with five seconds left in their semifinal match.

Cramsey-Behnke bounced back to win 8-0 and by a fall to finish third.

140, Caitlyn Woodworth (seventh): bye; lost 21-6; won by pin, 2:58; lost by pin, 4:44; won by pin, 4:33.

155, Ratchford (eighth): bye; lost by pin, :55; bye; lost by pin, 1:49.

170, Bain (fifth): bye; lost by pin, 1:08; lost by pin, :49; bye.

235, Cramsey-Behnke (third): bye; won by pin, :56; lost by pin, 5:55; won 8-0; won by pin, 2:25.
