Wildcats 3rd at JV championships | Swimming

Oak Harbor High School finished third in the eight-team junior varsity swim championships at Marysville-Pilchuck High School Thursday, Feb. 5.

Oak Harbor High School finished third in the eight-team junior varsity swim championships at Marysville-Pilchuck High School Thursday, Feb. 5.

The meet served as a “last chance” opportunity for athletes to meet district qualifying times.

Wildcat Josh Blyther dropped five seconds in the 200-yard freestyle (2:14.4) to earn a district time.

Lake Stevens won the meet with 493 points, followed by Stanwood (366) and Oak Harbor (251).

Jose Cabigting picked up the Wildcats’ lone first place, winning the 200 individual medley (2:32.69).

“Amazing meet last night,” coach Erin Bull said. Her team achieved 88 percent personal records, including Clifford Hartley (1:10.22) trimming 15 seconds off his best 100 free time.

If there are not enough qualifying times to fill all the district slots, swimmers with the next best times will be added.

“Waiting to hear on the wildcards,” Bull said, “but I am pretty excited and confident in our athletes.”

The district meet is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, and 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Snohomish Aquatic Center.
