Coupeville High School junior Makana Stone was named the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association 1A female Athlete of the Week for Jan. 26-31.

Stone averaged 20.5 points, 10 rebounds, five steals, three assists and one block and hit 19 of 28 shots (68 percent) in two games last week. The victories helped the Wolves clinch their first conference championship since 2002.

In recognition of her accomplishment, Stone will receive a congratulatory letter from WIAA Executive Director Mike Colbrese, a commemorative WIAA State Athlete of the Week T-shirt and a certificate. Winners are also posted to the WIAA website at www.wiaa.com

Each week throughout the school year, the WIAA recognizes twelve varsity athletes, a male and a female from each of the six classifications, who exhibited an outstanding performance for the previous week.

Stone is the second Coupeville athlete to receive the state honor this school year. Senior Josh Bayne was recognized during the football season.
