A 24-year-old Oak Harbor man is accused of smashing a bottle of Jack Daniels over another man’s head and stealing his marijuana, court documents indicate.

Prosecutors charged Bobby Lee Little III in Island County Superior Court Sept. 21 with assault in the second degree and robbery in the second degree. He pleaded not guilty Oct. 5.

Oak Harbor Police Officer Jennifer Rutledge responded to a report of an assault and robbery at a trailer park on Crosby Avenue June 24. She found a 25-year-old resident with blood all over his shirt from a “deep gash” on his cheek, she wrote.

The resident reported that an acquaintance, later identified as Little, asked for some marijuana; the man said he invited Little inside the trailer to smoke some. He claimed Little suddenly “went crazy,” grabbed a bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey and started hitting him with it, the report states.

According to the alleged victim, the two men fought around in the house and then Little grabbed the marijuana and ran off, the officer wrote. In addition, the man alleged Little stole his dog that had chased him down the road, the report states.

According to the report, Little claimed he hit the other man in self defense. Little claimed the other man “had gone nuts” and grabbed the bottle to attack him, but he was able to yank the bottle away and “backhand” the man with it, Rutledge wrote.

Little could face more than a year in prison under the standard sentencing range if convicted of the charges.
