Whidbey loses in extra innings | 13/14 baseball

The combined North/Central/South Whidbey 13/14 Junior Little League baseball team opened the district playoffs with a tough loss, falling 3-2 in nine innings to Sedro-Woolley Monday, June 30, in Anacortes.

The combined North/Central/South Whidbey 13/14 Junior Little League baseball team opened the district playoffs with a tough loss, falling 3-2 in nine innings to Sedro-Woolley Monday, June 30, in Anacortes.

The Whidbey team takes on Anacortes at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, in a loser-out game.

South Skagit thumped Anacortes 20-5 Monday.

The Whidbey offense was led by South Whidbey’s Cody Newman, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and three stolen bases. South Whidbey’s Taylor Brown added a double and RBI, and Central Whidbey’s Jojo Welling rapped two hits, including a double, and drove in a run.

Central Whidbey’s Nick Etzell pitched the final three innings.

North Whidbey is represented on the team by Jakob Dailey, Joseph Dixon, Danny Kloewer and Nathanael Thompson; and Jacob Hoagland, along with Welling and Etzell, represent Central Whidbey.
