Safe Ride Home Whidbey Island offers free rides home to anyone who finds themselves in unsafe situations, but the organization needs a little help from three island-wide fundraisers.

Because Safe Ride Home is nonprofit and run completely on donations, organizers are holding fundraising car washes. Come by for a wash, give a donation or volunteer at any of the three locations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 28: Coastal Community Bank in Freeland, Whidbey Island Bank in Oak Harbor or Whidbey Island Bank in Coupeville.

A community member pledged to match $2 for every $1 raised.

Safe Ride Home is a community service offered to everyone. It is a  preventative program that pre-pays the taxi cabs of Island County to provide anyone who needs it a safe ride home when they find themselves in an unsafe situation. If someone should not drive for any reason they can call 341-TAXI and get a free, safe and confidential ride home.

Safe Ride Home is a grassroots organization that blossomed out of the passion and motivation of a handful of Whidbey Island residents who want to improve the safety of the island’s roads for all drivers and passengers, regardless of their ages. To get involved, contact Brian Grimm at 360-929-3277.
