A group of Oak Harbor citizens is teaming up to bring relief to people in two Ferry County towns impacted by forest fires.

Ann and Greg Abrahamse are organizing efforts to bring donations, including bottled water, to the towns of Curlew and Republic, where residents are stranded because of the fires. The Abrahamses are friends with Ric Sanders, a park ranger at Curlew Lake State Park who grew up in Oak Harbor.

The group will be accepting donations from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today in the lot  next to 7-Eleven near Burger King on Highway 20 in Oak Harbor.

Items needed are bottled water, cots, pet food, packaged foods, blankets and pillows. 7-Eleven and Safeway are donating water and Diamond Rentals is donating a trailer.

Checks also may be donated in care of a firefighters fund at any Peoples Bank.

The group is looking for a truck and trailer or other covered vehicle to haul the items.

“We have volunteers who will drive if we have vehicles,” Ann Abrahamse said.
