I read the article on the assault of Jeremy Steinsiek with sadness. For his assailant to attempt to justify his actions by his military service is unconscionable.

As a retired Navy chief petty officer, I believe most of my shipmates would agree with the French philosopher Voltaire when he said, “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”
