Sound Publishing’s two newspapers on Whidbey Island now share a publisher.
“I am excited to announce the promotion of Marcia Van Dyke to publisher of the South Whidbey Record,” said Lori Maxim, vice president of Sound Publishing’s West Sound Newspaper Operations, in a news release Tuesday.
Van Dyke has been publisher of the Whidbey News-Times for nine years and has worked for Sound Publishing for 14 years.
In her new duties she will also oversee the monthly island-wide On! Whidbey magazine and continue to oversee the Northwest Navigator and OH Magazine.
The South Whidbey Record’s publisher, Sherry Mays, recently announced she is leaving to pursue other interests.
“I am thrilled to have been selected as publisher of the South Whidbey Record,” said Van Dyke. “Working at the News-Times, I’ve had a lot of interaction with the South Whidbey Record on many of our shared products and am looking forward to being a part of this award winning paper and their team. I expect to spend a couple of days a week on the South End of the island and I look forward to playing an active role in the community.”
Maxim also announced that Terri Tinker has been promoted to advertising manager for the Whidbey News-Times, South Whidbey Record, Northwest Navigator North, On! Whidbey and OH Magazine. Tinker has 10 years’ experience in the newspaper industry. For the last three years she has been the advertising consultant for the South Whidbey Record. She has prior experience at the Whidbey News-Times where she and Van Dyke worked together.
“Both Van Dyke and Tinker bring a wealth of experience. With their knowledge of both north and south markets and their cohesive working relationship they will make a strong team, Maxim said.
In another job promotion, Lynette Reeff, circulation manager at the Whidbey News-Times, will also be circulation manager for the South Whidbey Record.
Sound Publishing owns 32 weekly, biweekly and daily newspapers in Washington, 18 classified shoppers in the Nickel Publications group, and works with 18 network partner newspapers.
