Uninvited guest: Boy accused of burning hole in door of rental

A 17-year-old Mukilteo boy is accused of staying at a rental house in Clinton without permission and burning a hole in the door, according to court documents.

The suspect is not being named in this article because he is a minor.

Prosecutors charged the juvenile is Island County Juvenile Court Oct. 10 with arson in the first degree and residential burglary.

The property manager of the house on Mill Beach Lane reported to the Island County Sheriff’s Office Oct. 8 that someone had burned a hole in the front door of the house.

The deputy who responded found alcohol bottles, cigarettes, food and clothing strewn around the house. He also found paperwork related to a girl’s suspension from school.

The deputy contacted the girl, who said she and the boy from Mukilteo were homeless and had been staying at the Clinton house for six or seven days. She said they had permission from the owner’s daughter to enter the house, but the boy had set fire to the front door and forced a window out to gain entry, according to the police report.

The student also said the boy had stolen a car in Clinton, but Mukilteo police caught her driving it, the report states.
