Two Whidbey Island residents were injured in a Feb. 10 accident on South Whidbey, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The state patrol reported that 19-year-old Nadeea Forbes of Freeland was driving a 1985 Ford F250 pickup on Pioneer Park Place and failed to yield at the intersection with Highway 525. Forbes pulled onto the highway in front of a southbound 2005 Honda Element driven by 76-year-old Robert Brooks of Greenbank. The Honda Element SUV struck the pickup on the driver’s side.

Rescuers responded to a report of a crash with a smoking vehicle and entrapment at about 1:15 p.m. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

Forbes suffered significant injuries and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The teenager was listed in satisfactory condition Monday afternoon.

Brooks was also injured and transported to Providence Medical Center in Everett.

The state patrol reported that neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the accident, which was caused by the failure to yield. Both vehicles were totaled.
