Two car accidents on Sunday slow bridge traffic

Two separate car crashes just south of Deception Pass bridge sent two people to the hospital Sunday.

Two separate car crashes just south of Deception Pass bridge sent two people to the hospital and backed up traffic for hours on Sunday.

The first of the accidents occurred at about 10:50 a.m., according to North Whidbey Fire and Rescue Chief John Clark.

State Trooper Rocky Oliphant said the head-on collision occurred when one car crossed over the centerline.

Two cars were involved, and one patient was transported to WhidbeyHealth Medical Center. Traffic was reduced to one lane in the aftermath of the collision.

Later that day, around 4:15 p.m., a single vehicle rolled over and struck several cars that were parked along the street, Clark said.

Oliphant said Washington State Patrol received reports of a “radically traveling vehicle” in the area shortly before the incident occurred.

The driver of the car that rolled was the only person injured in the accident and was transported from the scene to the hospital. Oliphant said the injury was not serious.
