The Town of Coupeville’s portfolio is about to get a little bigger.

Last week, town council approved the acceptance of two waterfront parcels of land on Northeast Front Street.

The property, owned by Haigh and Sally Fox, is being gifted with stipulations on future development of the property.

The Foxes own a house at 101 NE Front St., which is currently for sale. The two parcels are directly across from the house.

Stipulations on the gift include restricting any development that obstruct the view of the home and not to allow parking in the space.

Conard said it would be difficult to have any kind of development on the property, but building beach access could be a possible option in the future.

When reviewing the offer, Conard said she learned public ownership of beach, tidelands and/or beach access is encouraged in the state.

“While we have no specific plans for this area in our comprehensive plan, I can see nothing negative in owning the land, and there may be other opportunities that surface in the future,” Conard told council.

This is also not the first time land has been gifted to the town.

Conard said several years ago a parcel father down Front Street was also gifted with similar stipulations.
