Playing its third game in three days, the Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team simply ran out of gas in a 62-33 loss at Edmonds-Woodway Thursday, Feb. 11.

This play-in game between the fourth-place teams from the Western Conference’s North and South divisions determined  the final spot in the district tournament.

Oak Harbor finished the season with an 8-14 record. Edmonds-Woodway (12-9) plays Lynnwood in the district tournament Saturday.

The Warriors jumped on the Wildcats early. Mady Burdett drilled a trio of three-balls and scored 11 points as E-W raced to a 22-8 lead.

Oak Harbor’s defense stiffened in the second quarter, limiting the Warriors to six points, and the Wildcats went into the locker room down 28-19.

Bryn Langrock’s three-pointer was the only offense the Wildcats could generate in the third quarter while the Warriors tallied 18 to pull away, 46-22.

Oak Harbor coach Jon Atkins said his club was drained physically and “couldn’t play defense at the level we had in the first half.”

“We played good defense in the second quarter but we couldn’t match that intensity for the rest of the game,” he added.

Senior AnnaBelle Whitefoot couldn’t play because of an injury.

“She often sets the tone defensively when we start to lag,” Atkins said.

Langrock, a junior, provided most of the Wildcats’ offense, hitting five shots from beyond the arc and scoring 20 points.

Junior Julie Jansen and sophomore Hannah Taylor tallied four points each; seniors Janae Payne and Deja Bunch added two each; and junior Kyanna Prosch hit a free throw.

Burdett led E-W with 18 points.
