A Marysville man accused of shoplifting at Oak Harbor’s Walmart could face extra time in jail because he used tinfoil to aid him in the caper, court documents indicate.

Prosecutors charged William Goldman in Island County Superior Court May 9 with retail theft with extenuating circumstances in the third degree. He pleaded not guilty May 16.

The extenuating circumstances, according to court documents, is that Goldman used a bag lined with tin foil to steal video games and evade the store’s sensors when leaving the store.

According to the police report, Goldman stole three video games. He told an officer that someone gave him the bag to steal the games, the report states.

If convicted of the felony charge, Goldman could face up to a year in jail under the standard sentencing range.
