Gee, thanks WEAN.
Several months ago I watched as the stock haulers arrived and after several trips they carted off the Muzzall dairy herd. It wasn’t hardly a week later and there was a large hole in the side of the milking equipment shed. That’s where they busted out a block wall to remove the milking equipment. Done. Gone. What next?
In one of my earlier prognostications regarding the possible outcome of the WEAN-farming debacle, I waxed that the Muzzall family would sell off their land and it would be developed.
Darned if I wasn’t almost right. (I hate it when that happens.)
Seems the Muzzalls have decided to develop their land themselves. There is the nefarious big yellow SEPA notice posted at the southwest corner of their property, right around the corner from where I live.
Now I can’t be shrill about what they are doing. Penn Cove Park used to be part of the Muzzall Farm way back when. If they hadn’t developed 50-60 years ago I wouldn’t have a home where I do. As far as I’m concerned it’s their land and they can sell it off if they want. (Doesn’t mean I like it.)
What I really don’t like though is that the chunk they are selling off is the 20 acres of woods just east of Penn Cove Park. You know, that nice strip of trees on either side of the road. Never been farmable I guess but the family had the resources to leave it alone.
Oops, no dairy farm.
Who cares now? Is WEAN going to buy this to preserve the woodland habitat next to me? How about the Ebey Landing Historic Trust or some other government do-gooder outfit?
Where are Bambi, Thumper and The Wise old Great Horned Hooty Owl going to call home?
The 20-acre wood is going to fall to the chainsaw soon, do you think WEAN can hear the trees hit the ground from where they live deep in the woods?
Like I said earlier; Gee, Thanks WEAN!
I can’t wait to find out what you are going to do for me next.
