A 27-year-old Oak Harbor man who terrified a teenaged girl by breaking into her Rolling Hills home two weeks ago is facing possible prison time, according to Island County Superior Court documents.

Prosecutors charged Jamen Clark July 5 with first-degree burglary. Judge Vickie Churchill set his bail at $100,000.

If convicted of the charge, Clark could face between a year and nine months to two years and three months in prison under the state’s standard sentencing range.

Island County Sheriff’s Deputy Lane Campbell wrote in his report about the incident that a 14-year-old girl was home at her Sharon Street residence when she saw a strange man looking through the garage. She called her mother in Coupeville, who drove home immediately.

After getting off the phone, the girl heard the glass break and locked herself in the bathroom. The 41-year-old woman arrived home shortly afterward. She walked into the house and encountered the burglar holding a knife in his hand. She told him to leave, which he did.

Deputies Campbell and Ed Wallace responded to the call and arrested Clark in the neighborhood.

Campbell wrote that Clark had two knives on him and a digital camera that was stolen from the victims’ house.

Clark claimed that he didn’t realize the girl was home when he broke in, the report states. He said he was cutting cords to the computer with a knife when the woman walked in.
