Oak Harbor swimmers dominated the next to last event to slide by Lake Stevens 91-88 in the Vikings’ pool Thursday.
In a close meet throughout, Oak Harbor captured six of the top eight spots in 100 yard backstroke in the 10th of 11 races to give the Wildcats some cushion going into the final event.
Akasha Trisler won in 1:13.37. Ciara Hu (1:14.32), Janika Bainco (1:22.85), Rachel Mueller (1:26.43), and Lindsay Johnson (1:30.34) went 3-6, while Angela Johnson picked up eighth (1:35.09).
Laura Rosen won two events (the 100 butterfly in 1:02.84 and 500 freestyle in 5:24.09) and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay team (1:47.25) with Karina Concepcion, Therese Desquitado, and Rachel Weinsten.
Weinstein grabbed another victory in the 200 freestyle (2:08.30). Concepcion took the 100 free, and Ciara Hu was the 200 individual medley winner (2:16.85).
The Wildcats picked up seconds from Concepcion in the 50 free (27.31), Trisler in the 100 butterfly (1:02.91), and Desquitado in the 100 (59.85) in individual events.
Oak Harbor also earned seconds in two relays. Trisler, Rosen, Hu, and Concepcion were runners-up in the 200 medley relay (1:59.2). The Wildcats also got second in the 400 yard relay in 3:57.25. (The names of the participants were not reported.)
Thirds were earned by Dequitado in the 200 free (2:18.27), Tori Nickerson in the 100 free (1:01.87), Lily Doyle in the 500 free (6:24.82), and Weinstein in the 100 backstroke (1:14).
Oak Harbor’s “E” team (DiAnne Dahl, Johnson, Jessica Cathey, and Amanda Ridge) placed third in the 200 free relay (1:57.81). The Oak Harbor “B” team took third in the 400 free relay (4:35.53). (Again, the names of the participants were not reported.)
Oak Harbor coach Erika Miller said she “was pleased with the girls’ swimming.” She added, “Lake Stevens has some very talented swimmers who gave our girls great races. Both teams exhibited good sportsmanship, and overall it was a great meet.”
