Coupeville’s Cole Weinstein qualified for the Northwest District 1 2A swim finals in two events during the preliminary heats in Anacortes Friday, Feb. 11.
Weinstein finished third in the 500-yard freestyle in a state-qualifying time of 5:09.94. Sehome’s Curran Wilbour posted the best time of 5:04.31.
Weinstein clocked a 1:57.48 for fifth in the 200 free; Archbishop Thomas Murphy’s Alec Barnard earned the best time of 1:47.94.
Coupeville’s Konrad Borden was 11th in the preliminaries of the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.74.
Although Coupeville is a 1A school, it competes with 2A schools in the post season because the state doesn’t hold a separate state meet for schools smaller than 2A.
The district 2A finals begin at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Anacortes. The top two finishers in each event qualify for the state meet along with any swimmers who have previously met state-meet qualify times.
The 3A preliminaries, which include Oak Harbor swimmers, conclude tonight.
