Skagit Valley College student Ashley Simpson, of Oak Harbor, was named to the 2014 All-Washington Academic Team.

Skagit Valley College student Ashley Simpson, of Oak Harbor, was named to the 2014 All-Washington Academic Team.

She was honored during the 19th annual ceremony at South Puget Sound Community College in spring quarter.

This year’s team comprises 68 students representing 34 community and technical colleges. Many legislators, college trustees and family members also attended the celebration.

During the ceremony, Simpson received a commemorative medallion from the college president, Dr. Tom Keegan.

Simpson, 20, majored in business with a focus on accounting. In addition to attending Skagit full-time, she worked two jobs to support herself. Despite a busy schedule, she maintained a 3.57 GPA and served on SVC’s student program board. Simpson said her long-term goal is to earn a master’s degree in business and become a certified public accountant.
