A new residential subdivision in Coupeville that’s been stalled for the past three years is once again moving forward.

On Aug. 10, the Coupeville Town Council approved the final plat for the Laurens Woods 20-home subdivision. The development is located south of Pennington Loop at the end of Faris and Albion Streets. A new road, Laurens Street, has been created to run the length of the housing project.

According to Town Planner Larry Kwarsick, Laurens Woods began years ago by CAC Land Development. Infrastructure, such as utility hook-ups and roads, were all installed and a preliminary plat was approved by the council in February 2007.

The project has been dormant ever since. At some point over the past three years, ownership reverted to People’s Bank. Although Kwarsick said the deal has not been finalized yet, Himalaya Homes, a developer based out of Lake Stevens, is set to take over the entire project.

“According to People’s and Himalaya, they intend to purchase it,” Kwarsick said.

The construction company has already submitted applications for building permits, along with designs and color schemes for each home. They are set to be reviewed by the Coupeville Design Review Board Tuesday, Aug. 24. If they are approved, Kwarsick said building could commence before the end of the month.

The review board’s meeting begins at 9 a.m. and will be held at the Coupeville Recreation Hall.
