Three varsity members return for an Oak Harbor High School girls golf team that finished second in the district tournament last year.

Seniors Sasha Olson, Mara Cortez and Millie Goebel are back to form the nucleus of this spring’s Wildcat team.

Olson earned all-Wesco North 4A second-team honors in 2010.

Oak Harbor needs to overcome the loss of three graduated players who qualified for the state tournament last season.

Coach Andy Wesley said, “I have four freshmen out that could become really good golfers with a little practice.  One of those freshman, Annie Leete, has already put in a lot of time practicing and looks like she could contribute greatly to our team this year.”

He added, “My goal for the year is to be competitive in all of our matches. Moving down to 3A, I’m not sure where we stack up against all of the other schools so it’s a little early to make any district predictions. However, my goal is to be district champions.”

Oak Harbor travels to Redmond Wednesday, March 16, at 2 p.m. for a jamboree. The regular season and home opener is the Whidbey Shootout at the Whidbey Golf and Country Club Monday, March 21, at noon.
