Two teens get wet after a drive through the city gets out of control

“Two Oak Harbor teens ended up getting wet after a drive through the city got a little out of control Saturday night.Oak Harbor Police Capt. Rick Wallace said the police received a report of a car in the water across the road from Mi Pueblo restaurant at around 8 p.m.According to Wallace, the 16-year-old Daniel Dreher was driving a 1991 Honda CRX at an excessive speed eastbound on SE Bayshore Drive. He attempted an illegal pass of another car and lost control at the curve near the intersection with Midway Boulevard.Wallace said the car went over the embankment and came to rest in the water. The car was not completely submerged, since the tide was partially out.Dreher and his passenger, 16-year-old Carl Kaufmann, were not injured in the accident, but Wallace said they both were transported to Whidbey General Hospital in case of hypothermia from the cold water. The car sustained extensive damage. Wallace said witnesses had conflicting accounts of the accident. One witness reported that it looked like Dreher was racing with the second car, which may also have been speeding. He said Dreher will likely be cited for negligent driving or possibly a more serious charge. “
