Sound Publishing is proud to announce the launch of two new publications  covering Puget Sound Naval bases and their communities.

The Whidbey Crosswind will cover activities on and around Whidbey Island Naval Air Station at Oak Harbor, while the Kitsap Navy News will chronicle the Bremerton, Bangor and Keyport Naval base communities.

Regular features will include Active Duty, On the Base, The Home Front, and Veterans’ Views, among other highlights. Coverage will also include national and international naval news and activities.
Publication of both newspapers will begin Friday, April 1, and will publish 52 editions per year.

“Sound is proud to claim four decades of success publishing military newspapers, and these new publications will carry on that tradition of excellence,” said Lori Maxim, vice president for West Sound Operations for Sound Publishing. “Our men and women in uniform deserve timely and lively coverage of their military service and their community activities, and we’re pleased to offer these newspapers to serve them.”

Whidbey Crosswind and Kitsap Navy News will have a combined weekly circulation of more than 15,000 copies. They will be distributed to military housing, at businesses supporting the Naval communities, and at other free pickup locations in and around the Naval installations. Both newspapers will be locally staffed and produced, and represented by local advertising sales teams. Whidbey Crosswind will be produced by Sound’s Whidbey Island office, while Kitsap Navy News will be produced by Sound Publishing’s Central Kitsap office in Silverdale.

Navy veteran and longtime Sound Publishing editor John R. Olson will coordinate the publications’ launch.

The Navy News and Crosswind print editions will also be supported by two new websites, www.whidbeycrosswind.com and www.kitsapnavynews.com, featuring local and national Navy news accessible to Naval personnel wherever they are assigned.

Publishing Navy newspapers is nothing new for Sound Publishing. For the past 41 years, the company has held the contract to publish the base newspaper for NAS Whidbey Island, and for the past 10 years has held the contract to publish the base newspaper serving Kitsap County and Everett Naval stations. Sound’s Navy publications have been honored for excellence by the Chief of Naval Information (CHINFO) each of the past five years.
