Soroptimist International of Oak Harbor announced its two Ruby Award winners this year, naming winner Marjorie Scribner and runner-up Georgette Anglum. Both women will receive a check for $500 to the charity of their choice and Scribner’s application will go on to region for a possible $1,500 donation.

Scribner was a teacher for more than 28 years. She was nominated for the award by Oak Harbor resident Toni Kotschwar who wrote, “(Scribner) taught her students to dream big and then provided experiences and challenges through which they had a chance to discover their strengths and gain confidence.”

Scribner’s charity of choice is the Toddler Learning Center.

Runner-up Georgette Anglum supports CADA. She was nominated for the Ruby Award by Oak Harbor resident Margie Porter. In her nomination, Porter said, “Georgette came to CADA in May of 2007, first as an advocate and then as a Youth and Community Educator … Georgette’s work is dedicated to girls and women, she also recognizes the importance of educating boys and young men to treat girls and women with respect and dignity.”

The Ruby Award is given to women who make extraordinary differences in the lives of women and girls through their professional or personal efforts.
