Registration is now open for the Polar Bear Dive on New Year’s Day.

After taking a year off, the annual event put on by South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District is back. A New Year’s tradition since 2004, participants will be ushering in 2022 with a plunge into the Salish Sea at Double Bluff Beach in Freeland. Proceeds from this event help support the 4-H Teen Leadership Club.

The event will be Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, at Double Bluff Beach in Freeland, with the “plunge” beginning at noon. Check-in opens at 10:30am. The registration fee is $15 and includes a T-shirt, subject to availability.

Limited parking is available and participants should plan ahead for delays in parking. There is no lifeguard on duty and participants should swim at their own risk.

Participants can register online at www.swparks.org/polar-bear-dive, at the park and rec district office at 5475 Maxwelton Road in Langley or in-person the day of the event.
