A 60-year-old man apparently stole a Porsche from his brother, according to documents filed in Island County Superior Court.

Prosecutors recently charged Norman Johnson with taking a motor vehicle without permission in the second degree. He had to travel all the way from Las Vegas to Coupeville to be arraigned May 6.

Deputy Evan Tingstad with the Island County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case of sibling rivalry gone way too far.

Johnson’s brother invited Johnson and his wife to his Freeland home to celebrate Johnson’s birthday.

Tingstad wrote that Johnson “became aggressive and argumentative” March 15, so his brother and his brother’s girlfriend left the house to avoid a fight.

But when they returned, Johnson, his wife and a fully-restored 1970 Porsche 911 were gone.

The man received a fax of a handwritten note the next day which stated that the car was in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express in Everett.

He retrieved the car, but found that one of the doors was dented. It cost $2,000 to fix, the report states.

Tingstad wrote that Johnson had left the note at the front counter for the hotel employees to fax to his brother.

If convicted of the charge, Johnson could face one to three months in jail.
