Should every gun sale be checked? | Letter

The gun sale background-check initiative will inconvenience law-abiding gun owners. Getting shot by someone who clearly should not own a gun is inconvenient.

Editor,

The gun sale background-check initiative will inconvenience law-abiding gun owners. Getting shot by someone who clearly should not own a gun is inconvenient.

Amazingly, the gun lobby’s response is Initiative 591, which illegally has two subjects.

It declares that it shall be unlawful to confiscate guns without due process and it shall be unlawful to check the background of any gun purchaser until the federal government makes it a national law.

If licensed dealers should check backgrounds, why shouldn’t all sales have background checks?
