Shorecrest erupts late to take down Wildcats | Softball

Shorecrest scored eight runs in the final two innings and then held on to defeat the Oak Harbor High School softball team 12-10 Wednesday, April 13, on the Wildcats’ diamond.

Oak Harbor led 6-2 going into the sixth inning. The Scots then plated five runs to take a 7-6 lead and added five more in the seventh inning.

The Wildcats scored once in the sixth and three times in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough.

Oak Harbor was sunk by poor defense. The Wildcats outhit Shorecrest 14-10 but committed four errors and surrendered seven unearned runs.

Oak Harbor picked up the game’s first run in the opening inning. Alexa Findley led off with a triple and scored on a groundout by her twin sister Kelly.

Singles by the Findleys and two errors helped give the Wildcats at 2-0 lead in the third inning.

Shorecrest tied the game in the top of the fourth, then Oak Harbor pushed across four runs to go up 6-2.

Halle Carpenter walked and Taylor Wilson reached on an error. Both scored on an error off the bat of Alexa Findley. After Brooke Wilson singled, Kelly Findley singled in two more runs.

The Scots (2-7, 2-9) cut into the lead with two runs in the fifth inning, then took control with the five-run sixth.

Oak Harbor scored a single run in the sixth, following the same pattern as the first inning. Alexa Findley tripled and Kelly Findley brought her home with a ground out.

Down 12-7 going into the bottom of the seventh, Shea Davis ripped a three-run double for Oak Harbor to set the final score.

Alexa Findley finished the day 4-for-5 with two triples, a double, four runs and two RBI.

Tricia Sarns was 3-for-4 with a run, and Kelly Findley was 2-for-4 with four RBI. Taylor Heidt added two hits.

Oak Harbor’s game with Shorewood scheduled for Tuesday, April 12, was rained out. No makeup date has been determined.

The Wildcats (2-3, 3-5) play at Mountlake Terrace (5-2, 7-2) at 4 p.m. Friday, April 15.
