Shooting cancels Marysville-Pilchuck game against Oak Harbor

Because of a shooting on the Marysville-Pilchuck High School campus today, Oct. 24, the football game between Oak Harbor and Marysville-Pilchuck scheduled for tonight is cancelled.

The Marysville Police Department has confirmed that two people have died — the shooter and one other person, who police are not confirming is a student or staff member.

Two police sources confirmed the shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Seattle Times is reporting.

According to our sister paper, The Everett Herald, unconfirmed reports indicate a person approached a table in the cafeteria and started shooting students.

“The Marysville Pilchuck High School is currently in lock down due to an emergency situation,” said a statement released by Marysville school officials shortly after 11 a.m.”

Police and emergency services have responded. The Marysville School District lock down procedures will remain in effect at Pilchuck until further notice from law enforcement,” the school’s statement said. “This is police matter, all requests for communication around this matter is deferred to the police.”
