Sex offender moving to Rolling Hills on Whidbey

Island County Sheriff Mark Brown has called a special meeting Tuesday night to discuss a Level II sex offender who’s moved into the Rolling Hills neighborhood.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m., Aug. 12 at the Rolling Hills — Glencairn Community Center at 1093 Sidney St.

The sex offender in question is 38-year-old Ronald Petricko, who’s moving to North Whidbey from Michigan. He’s considered a moderate risk to the community of re-offending. He will be supervised by the Department of Corrections for two years under an interstate agreement.

Petricko will be on electronic home monitoring under Sept. 11. He has completed sex offender treatment.

In January 2002, Michigan State Patrol was conducting an inspection of a rest area and discovered Petricko having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl in the back of his van. The ensuing investigation uncovered that the relationship was solicited and developed through the Internet over a six-months period. The relationship started with cybersex and progressed to a physical sexual relationship.

Petricko was convicted of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree and internet communication with intent to commit a crime.
