School levy: Chinese offer sage advice

On March 8, 2005, vote “yes” to renew Oak Harbor’s current Maintenance and Operations (M&O) levy. It’s simple. No tax increase for four years, as the proposed rate is unchanged from the current levy rate, and no other M&O levy can be run for those four years.

“If you are planning for a year, sow rice; if you are planning for a decade, plant trees; if you are planning for a lifetime, educate people.” (Chinese proverb.)

Accountable spending – maintaining current programs such as hot lunches, advanced placement classes, 30 minute longer school days, instructional aides and teachers and computer support. Don’t let our schools lose the gains of four years ago. Oak Harbor needs to be planning for a lifetime.
