A Search and Rescue team from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island rescued a skier in the Cascade Mountains and a snowboarder in the Olympic Mountains over the Memorial Day weekend.

On May 24, the SAR team received a call to rescue a male skier suffering from multiple injuries because of a fall near Mount Logan, east of Sedro-Woolley. By about 1 p.m. the SAR team arrived on scene, finding the injured skier and an uninjured companion in steep terrain at about 6,500 feet, according to a press release.

The SAR team hoisted the patient and his uninjured companion aboard the helicopter. They were transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where they landed by about 2:20 p.m.

At about 6:30 p.m. May 25, a SAR team set out to rescue a snowboarder with a broken leg near Silver Lake in the Olympic Mountains at about 5,000 feet. When the team arrived on scene above the clouds at 8,000 feet, they found it impossible to reach the patient’s location.

The SAR team returned to NAS Whidbey while maintaining contact with a ground team that was trying to reach the injured snowboarder, according to the press release.

The SAR team delivered the patient to Harborview Medical Center at about 10:15 p.m.
